Here’s a Christmas greeting from John Quincy Adams, the son of John Adams and the sixth president of the United States. These words are from a speech he delivered commemorating the 50th anniversary of American Independence in Newburyport, Massachusetts on July 4, 1837.
“Is it not that, in the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior? That it forms a leading event in the progress of the gospel dispensation?
Is it not that the Declaration of Independence first organized the social compact on the foundation of the Redeemer’s mission upon earth? That it laid the corner stone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity, and gave to the world the first irrevocable pledge of the fulfillment of the prophecies, announced directly from Heaven at the birth of the Savior and predicted by the greatest of the Hebrew prophets six hundred years before?”
Here’s some things to ponder this Christmas:
Jesus Christ has an EXALTED name: Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11
Jesus Christ has an EMPOWERING name: You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. John 15:16
Jesus Christ has an EXCLUSIVE Name: But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. Matthew 1:20-21
And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. Act 4:12. (2)
