“Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human liberty; it is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.” William Pitt
The language in Washington state’s proposed Senate Bill 5737 would permit authorities to enter a home to conduct a search. “In order to continue to possess an assault weapon that was legally possessed on the effective date of this section, the person possessing shall … safely and securely store the assault weapon. The sheriff of the county may, no more than once per year, conduct an inspection to ensure compliance with this subsection.” (1)
Once this became public the bills two sponsors (State Sen Adam Kline and State Sen Ed Murray) backed off, claiming they didn’t read the entire bill. Yea, right! Where have we heard this before?
Such legislation originated in England where the king would order the army to enter the homes of his subjects to conduct random searches whenever he desired. If memory serves me correctly, our forefathers kicked the last king out and gave us the Bill of Rights.
Not only do elites want to destroy the 2nd Amendment, they’ll be glad to take down the 4th, which prohibits unreasonable searches, with it. The process of illegal searches intensified after we were attacked in 2001. The government called them screenings to protect us before boarding a plane. Always note the type of language they use; “screenings” or “inspection.” Call it what you want, its still a search without probable cause.
Rush Limbaugh made an excellent point by saying “They may have pulled this because the pressure became too intense, but they clearly, in the state of Washington — and they’re speaking for all liberals — let out of the bag what their intentions are. So all of these people who have projected or complained that what the left really wants to do is to go home to home, house to house, and eventually find a way to get your guns away from you? It is true, and people who have made that claim have been ridiculed and impugned and shamed into shutting up. (2)
Vice President Biden took it upon himself to tell Americans what type of firearm they should purchase; “You don’t need an AR-15 (rifle). It’s harder to aim. It’s harder to use and in fact you don’t need 30 rounds to protect yourself. Buy a shotgun.” (3) Besides blowing off more hot air, Biden is going around the country on your dime trying to make a case for Americans to relinquish their inalienable rights.
Control of us, in the name of safety (as always), is one issue. We’ve been hearing the same line since Newtown, ‘If we could save just one life it would be worth it.’ Don’t buy it!
Another intent is to divide the country. Doesn’t matter what the issue is, as long as the government can drive a wedge between people, and the states, it will be all the more easier for them to implement change – for our good, of course. At the present, a number of states are opposed to federal intervention over health care and this issue. That’s what Lincoln meant by ‘a house divided.’

Now that North Korea is threatening more aggression, don’t worry about cuts to the military should Obama’s ‘sequester’ happen. They’ve already started, and have been going on for some time, as a number of high ranking officers have left the military for a variety of reasons. I think this is a deliberate purge and commend Hugh Hewitt comments on this topic at a very critical time for us. Hi Steve:
I tried to post a comment but it didn’t work. I just wanted to say thank
you for enlarging our understanding as you always do. I am certain that no
one on that cruise ship would trade places with the young man you described
in dangerous places, serving his country. Aren’t we so good at complaining
about the little things but missing the big things in life we should truly
be grateful for and mindful of. We are sheep who are easily “carried away”
by the futility of our worldly thoughts.

As always Steve, you are right on! I am so tired of hearing and seeing Biden put his foot into his mouth regarding the gun battle (and countless other ridiculous comments he’s made in the past.) Although I don’t own a gun, I believe the Second Amendment states clearly that anyone, after checks and registration, may own a gun. This is just another of Obama’s attempt to control the masses through federal legislation.
