The Third Amendment reads like this: “No soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner prescribed by law.” After the Lexington – Concord Alarm of April 19, 1775 our forefathers led by Joseph Warren started working to remove General Thomas Gage and his forces from Boston.
This prompted John Hancock to write: “Boston must be entered; the British troops must be sent away.” (1)
Joseph Warren also sent this letter to the towns around Boston: “The barbarous murders committed on our innocent brethren, On Wednesday the 19th instant, have made it absolutely necessary that we immediately raise an army to defend our wives and our children from the butchering hands of an inhumane soldiery…who will take the first opportunity in their power to ravage this devoted country with fire and sword…Our all is at stake…Every moment is infinitely precious…We beg and entreat, as you will answer to God himself, that you will hasten and encourage by all possible means the enlistment of men to form and army, and send them foward to headquarters at Cambridge…“(2)
I’m not proposing to fight our government. What I am saying and have been for years, is that we need to get involved politically and do more than just vote. As you see by Warren’s letter, our forefather’s believed Christ was “the ever-active Governor of the universe.” (3) They believed they would answer to Him, the Supreme Judge of the World, how they met this threat.
Too many of us have given up because we think it’s the “end times” and Christ will return very soon. He might, but I don’t want to risk my liberties and those of my kids and grandkids with that type of thinking. I want to rid our land of these Marxist’s while we have the opportunity. Only 9-11% of the population actually took part in the Revolution.
As David Barton writes: “When British troops approached Lexington, Concord, Bunker Hill, Williamsburg, and elsewhere, Americans didn’t send a messenger to George Washington to ask what should be done. Instead, they simply stood up in their own local community to face down the enemy closest to them…We need to pay attention to what is happening locally. We need to fill our school boards, city councils, public utility districts and other city and county positions with common-sense, God-fearing, Constitution-heeding individuals…while it might be difficult to elect them to the US Senate or House right now, it’s not difficult to elect them as mayors or school board presidents. (4)
