For those of you in the “God is control” crowd let me say God always accomplishes His purposes, but for the most part He chooses to use people for specific assignments (Judges 4).
In an age where women were treated worse than dogs God used two of them, along with a storm and other unlikely things, to help Barak defeat an oppressive military power that ‘put the boots‘ to the Israeli’s for years (1 Corinthians 1:26-29).
In many ways America today resembles the Israel of Judges 4. At a time when the entire nation should have united, many tribes remained on the sidelines – just like a majority of Christians today. Scripture is very clear that patriotism requires participation or action, on the part of it’s citizens.
Those who engaged in the fight were praised, but those who sat idle, ignoring the call, were strongly rebuked (Romans 15:4; 1 Corinthians 10:11).
Judges 5:13-18 records the lack of action of some of the tribes:
Ruben didn’t life a finger to help (v. 13); Dan put money first (v. 17); while Asher was unmoved by the tyranny that smothered the nation. They came to accept slavery, more concerned with their own safety than freedom. They found reasons, like some of you, not to get involved.
The strongest condemation is found in verse 23 where the Angel of the Lord, who some surmise is the Lord Jesus Christ, pronounces a curse on the city of Meroz. Theologians take the postion that nothing much is known about this city, except to say it was close to the action while the inhabitants looked on from their position of comfort.
This verse was also used during the founding period to rouse people into action. After the battles of Lexington and Concord, Williams Stearns preached: “Cursed is the sneaking coward who neglects the sinking state, when called to its defense-O then flee this dire curse-let America’s valorous sons put on the harness, nor take it off till peace shall be to Israel.” (1)
“Establishment politicians are trashing America day in and day out, week after week. Not only that, they’re attacking us, our ancestors and our heritage while seeking to impose their will on us. They are deliberately evading the Constitution to take us down.” (2)
Tyranny exists in the form of the Health Care law and it must be repealed. It forces us to subsidize others (redistribution of wealth), will destroy insurance companies, force doctors into submission and will unleash the IRS on those who refuse to sign up. (3)
Marxist radicals have taken over the Democrat party, while GOP members who ran on the promise of repealing Health Care, have now stepped back claiming ‘it’s the law of the land’. The whole law from start to finish is unconstitutional. As Mark Levin reminds us; The Constitution is the law of the land.”
