1776 was a rough year for the Colonists. Everything that could go wrong, did. During the war General Nathaniel Greene is noted for saying; “We fight, get beat, rise, and fight again.“

All seemed lost, until General Washington made a gutsy decision to move his troops on Christmas night and attack Hessian regulars nestled in the town of Trenton, New Jersey. With God lending a hand with the weather, the Continental Army surprised an enemy ‘half in the bag’ from schnapps that was poured during the celebration the night before. Things then started turning in favor of the Americans.

Unlike the “straw men” (2) now occupying Washington, genuine patriots like Washington, Greene, Colonel John Glover, General John Sullivan and General Henry Knox risked everything in order to drive the British from American soil.

The last five years may cause you to think America won’t recover. However, take heart this season, because delegates from over 30 states have called for a Convention of States (under Article V of the US Constitution) in an attempt to lawfully and constitutionally rein in an out-of-control federal government. Like Trenton and other battles, this will be a long, tough fight that will go on for years. Along the way, there will be victories and setbacks. However, it’s worth the risk.

It’s about more than elections. It’s setting term limits for elected officials and judges, like the one in Utah who issued a bogus opinion in defiance of the will of the people to advance a radical agenda. It’s about cutting the debt and spending that has become all too common in DC today.

We also need to sanitize massive bureaucies now infested with people holding to Marxist ideology, and using their office to promote way of life that will destory America as we know it.

Our freedom of speech and the freedom to practice Christianity is under massive assault by the federal government. Mainly because of the link between Bethlehem and Philadelphia.

On July 4, 1837, sixty-one years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, John Quincy Adams (who was also the sixth president of the United States) delivered a speech to the town of Newburyport, Massachusetts. Read these words carefully:

“Why is it that, next to the birthday of the Savior of the World, your most joyous and most venerated festival returns on this day? – And why is it that, among the swarming myriads of our population, thousands and tens of thousands among us, abstaining, under the dictate of religious principle, from the commemoration of that birth-day of Him, who brought life and immortality to light, yet unite with all their brethren of this community, year after year, in celebrating this, the birth-day of the nation?

Is it not that, in the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior? That it forms a leading event in the progress of the gospel dispensation? Is it not that the Declaration of Independence first organized the social compact on the foundation of the Redeemer’s mission upon earth? That it laid the corner stone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity, and gave to the world the first irrevocable pledge of the fulfillment of the prophecies, announced directly from Heaven at the birth of the Savior and predicted by the greatest of the Hebrew prophets six hundred years before?” (3)

The men who brought you this great nation, along with those who fought at Trenton and other places, knew that “the greatest gift America has for the world is the Gospel of Jesus Christ.” (4)

That’s why Progressive’s (another name for Marxist’s) are working to rid America of all references to Christ. They know He is the firm foundation and defense our Founders relied on. Once He’s out of the picture man (or government), becomes the focal point.

That’s why it’s imperative, no matter how many times we get beat, we keep getting back up to fight. However, our plans will fail if we do not ask God for wisdom, guidance and for a little help like He gave in days gone by.

Then and only the will we honor God and the men who fought at Trenton.
