lions_of_the_round_top_lg“Like the nations the Lord destroyed before you, so you will be destroyed for not obeying the Lord your God.” (Deuteronomy 8:20).

Below is a portion of President Abraham Lincoln’s 2nd Inaugural Address delivered on March 4, 1865. I take the position God judges nations based on the stands it leaders take and slavery was an issue that needed to be dealt with. When the country didn’t act, all kinds of evil followed.

Speaking on the issue of slavery, one of our premier founders warned that God would judge “national sins by national calamities.” (1)

Take some time to read the entire speech (go to a search engine) and then consider it in light of abortion as the country approaches the 60 million mark. It’s a short, but very powerful address chock full of refernces to God and the Bible.

I’ve included the scripture references Lincoln used in the speech. Following that are the ten major battles of the Civil War and the resulting casualties. Do the math, and while you’re at it don’t think God won’t spank us again – something we hear very little about today.

“Both read the same Bible, and pray to the same God; and each invokes His aid against the other. It may seem strange that any men should dare to ask a just God’s assistance in wringing their bread from the sweat of other men’s faces; but let us judge not that we be not judged. (Matthew 7:1-2)

The prayers of both could not be answered; that of neither has been answered fully.

The Almighty has His own purposes. ‘Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!’ (Matthew 18:7)

If we shall suppose that American Slavery is one of those offences which, in the providence of God, must needs come, but which, having continued through His appointed time, He now wills to remove, and that He gives to both North and South, this terrible war, as the woe due to those by whom the offence came, shall we discern therein any departure from those divine attributes which the believers in a Living God always ascribe to Him?

Fondly do we hope–fervently do we pray–that this mighty scourge of war may speedily pass away.

Yet, if God wills that it continue, until all the wealth piled by the bond-man’s two hundred and fifty years of unrequited toil shall be sunk, and until every drop of blood drawn with the lash, shall be paid by another drawn with the sword, as was said three thousand years ago, so still it must be said “the judgments of the Lord, are true and righteous altogether.” (Psalm 19:9) 966301_465928986815174_1428392200_o

  1. Deborah Says:

Excellent analogy between the blood of slaves and that of the pre-born…and if blood does indeed ‘cry out’ (Genesis 4:10) One can only imagine the deafening sound our GOD is enduring.

I would disagree on but one point. You said: “I take the position God judges nations based on the stands it leaders take …”

It is my observation, that GOD gives a nation the leaders it deserves. And if that be so….I dare not imagine our next leader – if – we even get to vote for another. Either way, either view does not bode well for us.

By His grace and for His glory,
    Deborah

God does give a nation the leader it deserves. However, if the people are liars, they’ll get a liar. If they’re arrogant, they’ll get someone who reflects that trait.
However, this government was founded on Christian principles and was set up for the people to become actively involved. It means more than just voting.

The majority of people bought the lie of the media, failed to examine the background of the current president, and the results are evident to all.

The voters are the ones to blame for this selection, not God (even though Providentially things are working according to His plan).
