“Our Constitution was made for a moral and a religious people.” John Adams
Recently, the pastor of my church sent out an email encouraging his congregation to vote “God’s principles” in the upcoming election. Great advice that I’d like to expand upon.
As you recall the Declaration, called our national charter by historian David Barton, has four references to God in it. Additionally, he indicated that to interpret the Constitution correctly it must be done in light of the principles found in the Declaration.
Today we’ll concentrate on the first reference, “The Laws of Nature and of nature’s God.”
Our founders relied on William Blackstone when they crafted this excellent document, and in his book “The Myth of Separation”, Barton tells us that Blackstone believed that “natural law-or laws of nature-was made up of two components: the physical laws of nature, and the revealed or Divine law of scripture.” (1)
In short, Blackstone said: “This law of nature…dictated by God himself, is of course superior in obligation to any other…No human laws are of any validity, if contrary to this…The revealed or divine law…found only in the holy scriptures...are found upon comparison to be really part of the original law of nature…Upon these two foundations, the law of nature and the law of revelation, depend all human laws; that is to say, no human laws should be suffered to contradict these.” (2)
The policies being promoted by Obama administration, relative to life (Genesis 1:26-27, 9:6*), marriage (Genesis 2:18-25), and Israel (Genesis 12:1-3), go against God’s Word, and under the form of government given to us by those fifty-six great men, disqualify him or anyone else advancing these from holding office.
A person claiming to be a Christian and mature student of Scripture cannot, in good conscience or allegiance to God, vote for anyone who implements things that God looks upon as sin. If we do, we’ll reap the consequences, as I believe we are doing today (Galatians 6:7-8. The life of Jacob and the grief his deception caused is a good lesson for all, especially young kids).
There is abundant evidence available showing our Founders believed we are accountable to God for the way we vote. But, enough for now…

Great words of advice, Steve! You are right on, in my opinion, on
your statements. The two that really stand out for me are: (1) A Christian cannot in good conscience vote for those things which our God has flagged in His Word as going against His nature and His laws. (2) I believe with you that our Founders believed we are accountable to our God for the way we vote. Anxious to hear more on this last area.

Nicely done, Steve. The words and wisdom of the Founders’ remains a guiding light for anyone who will listen. Thanks for the timely reminders.

Oh, that these words of Biblical wisdom were spoken in every Bible believing church in our land – NOW.
Sadly, many people will never read the admonition of a Pastor or the Bible….they are only ‘auditory’ learners. Sadly, of those auditory learners, many won’t even listen to Christian radio or the Bible on tape.
Therefore, it becomes all of the more critical for passionate Bible teachers to make the most of every opportunity to verbally teach those Biblical principles and precepts to their captive audience, ‘while it is still day’ – for ‘the night is fast approaching when no man can work.’
To boldly: ‘speak the truth in love’ is evidence of being led by the Holy Spirit. Let us then pray for the Holy Spirit to fill and to guide men of GOD, to become like our spiritual ancestors Peter, Paul, Stephen and others – who will BOLDLY speak the Truth – in love…..
